All About LJC
Meet The Shepherds
For Kim and Ray Shepherd, purchasing LJC Feed was the very definition of the American Dream. Meeting and getting married later in life, Kim and Ray were determined to find a business that combined their knowledge and skills with their passions in life. The feed store was the answer!
Ray grew up on a ranch in Eastern Oregon and spent the first 35 years of his life in the purebred cattle industry. He worked as a herdsman and showed cattle across the nation for a leading purebred cattle operation out of Idaho. Ray later ended up in the construction industry selling heavy equipment, but continued to raise livestock and rope.
Kim grew up in the construction industry and lived across the nation until her family settled in the PNW. She has had a life-long love of horses and grew up riding while participating in 4-H. Kim later became the director of a local non-profit that worked with high-risk youth in a ranch-setting as well as volunteering for Vancouver's Rodeo Bible Camp for over ten years. Combining her love of horses with helping kids became a true passion. This passion is also brought Kim and Ray together.
After meeting at Rodeo Bible Camp in 2013, they were married in 2014 and wanted to purchase a business that allowed them to support the things that were important to them. They were sitting at the Clark County Fair's Junior Livestock show when it hit them: a feed store would be a business suited to their backgrounds that would allow them to support local youth involved in agriculture. It was a perfect match!
They purchased LJC Feed from Gordon and Patty French in February of 2019, and were fortunate to inherit a fantastic team of employees and a well-run, well-established business allowing them to jump right in and get involved in the community. They feel blessed and grateful to be the owners of LJC Feed.
